MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Three members of the West Virginia University wrestling program will represent the West Virginia Regional Training Center at the 2023 U.S. Open in Las Vegas, Nevada, from April 27-30.
“We are all excited that they are going to go out and compete for an opportunity to make a World Team,” fifth-year WVU coach Tim Flynn said. “It’s good for them, good for our program, and we wish them the best.”
Sophomore Michael Dolan (65kg–143lbs) and freshman Brody Conley (79kg–174lbs) will compete in the U20 division, with the top eight at each weight class qualifying for the World Team Trials tournament from June 2-4 in Geneva, Ohio. The winner of the event will earn an automatic berth to the best-of-three wrestle-off series against the WTT challenge tournament champion.
On the Senior level, WVU volunteer assistant coach Muhamed McBryde (79kg–174lbs) battles for a spot in the top seven to qualify for the World Team Trials challenge tournament in late May. The winner of the U.S. Open qualifies for Final X and a best-of-three wrestle-off against either a returning world medalist or the champion of the World Team Trials challenge tournament, depending on the weight class.
