MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – For the third consecutive year, three members of the West Virginia University wrestling team were named to the 2023 Division I Scholar All-America Team by the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) on Friday afternoon.
Fifth-year senior Killian Cardinale and junior Peyton Hall both made their third straight appearances on the list. The duo joins Sam Kline (1997-99) and Matt Lebe (2004-06) as the third and fourth Mountaineers to be honored with the award three times. Additionally, junior Caleb Dowling rounded out the group by making his debut.
Cardinale, Hall and Dowling moved WVU’s total number of NWCA Scholar All-Americans to 33 all-time and are on track to pick up Academic All-Big 12 first-team honors later this month.
The trio join 291 additional student-athletes representing 73 institutions in earning the distinction.
